garm let me know that he had contacted the Waterstones (Oxford branch), by phone, to find out if they were selling trade and deluxe editions at the Alan Lee book signing event, and was told trade only

I have contacted HarperCollins about this, and am very happy with the response

We’ve noted that there has been some over-enthusiastic ordering in certain quarters, so we’re currently working on redistribution of stock to ensure that all bookshop events will have copies of the deluxe edition alongside the hardback. These events are for the fans so the last thing we want is for them to go away disappointed.

Awesome! Can one of you work with me to arrange a signed copy since I can't get over the pond to do it myself? Please let me know so we can discuss details.

Sorry, I can't help but throw in that if there's anyone that might be able to grab me a signed copy, I would be eternally grateful (I'm also in the US). Of course I would be more than happy to compensate generously for the favour. I know there are probably a lot of people requesting this so I'm not expecting anything... just thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

That's nice to hear that HarperCollins is so thoughtful concerning the fans.

Let me join in begging for a signed copy.

It would be great if someone could make that possible.

But like Berelach said, one can only ask and hope for the best.
