Adding a bit more flexibility to the discussion forums - created a separate category for more discussion topics - particularly, I wanted to start using the forums as a good place to ask content related questions - where to find additional information, sources for topics we may be writing articles or books about, etc.

And, of course, now I have fixed the permissions so everyone can see the new category and forums...

And finally (maybe not...) it appears that you need to re-add your email notification preference for the new category (emails are not sent out for any of the new forums even if you had the "email me if anything new is posted" flag set before.) Turns out those flags are per category, not really global.
