HoME Deluxe slipcased [THREE vol. in ONE slipcase]

These just arrived today and in reference to this
HoMe Deluxe Slipcase thread I thought I'd share some pics.

I have to say I'm delighted to have these at last (especially with the slipcase) as I did wait for ages when they were first released as word was they were going to be released as a 3 volume set, but never were and having waited so long I ended up not being able to get them anyway.

As you can see from the pics they do fit the slipcase but the 3rd volume was really a little too wide to fit without risking damage.
The box even came in the original box/wrapping from harper collins, which I thought was cool after all this time.

Anyway here are the pics:

Be interested in what kind of (hellish) price you paid for that boneschops!? Thanks for sharing the images. Very interesting indeed. Like you, I never, regrettably, picked these up at the time. I only have vol. III. Does Image 1 show single slipcases in the backround too? Slipcases within slipcases...

I paid £450 for the set, so I think it was a good price, especially considering they're all in fine condition. And yes the normal slipcases are there as well :D

Got them on eBay.
Got talking to the seller and he very kindly ended the auction early to sell to the highest bidder.
Really nice guy, been collecting for about 40 years :o

Interesting lot.
Is it a good price do we think? If you compare with the recent sale of the 3 histories for high £100s if not more I suppose its fairly good but on their own you could probably pick up for a lot less.

Only the second one i have seen - anyone got one ?

I bet David @ Bookshelf could make a case? anyone been down that avenue ?

The books are significantly more expensive than they could be obtained for separately, so the slipcase is adding a significant value to the lot, assuming it sells. I've had all my copies of these books for quite a few years (and probably bought when prices were at their peak), but I would guess I paid a bit more than half of the price listed all up for the 6 books.

It is pretty easy to make slipcases. The card and cloth are readily available, and anyone with a bit of craft skill can make a near perfect case for a lot less than the ones I have seen advertised by Tolkienbookshelf. The Tolkien monogram is the only tricky bit, but plain coloured slipcases are dead easy. That said, the interest in these HoME cases is that they are "genuine" and a rarity.

Just a few informations I got from the seller on the LotR and the Hobbit for anyone interested.
Hob is a 1st impression and LotR is a 2nd.
