TOLKIEN, J. R. R. (1892-1973). The Hobbit or There and Back Again. London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd., 1937. 8vo. Half title, wood-engraved frontispiece and 9 wood-engraved illustrations by the author, all but one full-page, one-page of advertisements at the end (frontispiece and title page very lightly browned). Original green pictorial cloth designed by the author, map endpapers printed in red and black (without the dust-jacket, some very light staining and a small nick to spine), contained in a modern green morocco-backed box by Asprey & Co. Ltd. Provenance: From the Collection of John Marriott (1921-2007) and Count R. L. Sangorski (1940-2014). FIRST EDITION, first impression.1,500 copies were printed of this, the author's first novel and a children's classic.

TOLKIEN, J. R. R. (1892-1973). The Lord of the Rings. London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd, 1954-55. 3 volumes, comprising The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, 8vo. Half titles, map printed in red and black, large folding maps printed in red and black at the end of each volume, table. Exceptionally finely-bound in contemporary green morocco by Asprey & Co. Ltd., spines with raised bands and lettered in gilt, gilt edges, marbled endpapers (some very light staining to boards, joints a little browned). Provenance: Count Sangorski (crowned monogram stamped on titles of all three volumes and on rear endpapers of two volumes). FIRST EDITION. (3)
