About six months ago, I found a proof copy of English & Medieval Studies Presented to J. R. R. Tolkien on the Occasion of his 70th Birthday. Has anyone ever seen a copy of this before?

I believe it is an uncorrected bound proof and not an advance reading copy as the book is paperback and the blurb for it is stapled to the inside of the cover. It also has a stamp on the cover that reads "Book Proof" with a date of Nov. 1962.

I have seen a letter from Rayner Unwin to Houghton Mifflin (dated 9 Nov 1962) in which he offers the book to them for publication in the US. It was accompanied by a proof copy. HM turned it down as it was 'too scholarly'.
