I didn't know this box set existed (but I'm still not going to pay £400 for it!)

Me neither. I saw him this morning on Ebay, and when I had a first look I thought it was a custom made slipcase. But when I looked better, I saw it wasn't.
Never have seen it before but I think £400 is a bit overrated for this boxset... ![]()

that set is called the "Tolkien Library"
It is a set I have since I was a kid, and it does not show up very often. But who knows, now that one has been listed more will come?

Like all UK books this is mentioned on Deagol's website.
http://www.tolkienbooks.net/html/other-sc_2.htm Interestingly The Hobbit included with this set has a green dyed top to the pages. As far as I am aware only the First Impression Hobbits and this Fourth Impression had green dye on the top of the pages. As the other books in The Tolkien Library also had blue and red dye on the top of the pages may explain why this this Hobbit was also dyed.
