There is something about stories… their eternal appeal, their ability to transport, to enlighten, to convey conviction and pose questions. Myth is story in one of its purest forms. About myth so much has been said it would take years to read it all, and there is so much more to say. All opportunities, even with the brevity imposed by the acceptable length of a foreword, are welcome opportunities. The following text was written last August in Wellington, for Gary Raymond’s “3-Minute J.R.R. Tolkien: A Visual Biography of The World’s Most Revered Fantasy Writer”, published by Ivy Press. I'm very happy to announce the collector profile of Myla D'Avanzo, a Tolkien and Middle-earth movie merchandise collector from Connecticut in United States, who primarily collects Tolkien books and while she focused mainly on the movies and merchandise from that, in the last few years started to branch out. She sees herself as a beginning collector but we are very proud to show her collection!

Individual members of the Mythopoeic Society are invited to nominate books for the 2011 Mythopoeic Awards, and/or to volunteer to serve on any of the committees. (You need not join the committee to make nominations.)  The deadline for committee volunteers and for nominations (limit of five per person per category, please!) is  February 1, 2013 ; please send nominations to the awards administrator (see contact info below) via e-mail (preferred) or U.S. mail.  Authors or publishers may not nominate their own books for any of the awards.  Books published by the Mythopoeic Press are not eligible for the awards.  The Mythopoeic Society does not accept or review unsolicited manuscripts. The Friendship of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien  from Tolkien Library News  (2012/11/4 17:00)

Two of the world?s most beloved authors are C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. Both of these legendary English writers wrote about magical lands not too different from our own. Lewis preferred that friends like Tolkien call him Jack. Tolkien preferred to be called Tollers.
