  • Winning bid: $5453
  • British author and scholar (1892–1973) whose Lord of the Rings trilogy became one of the towering classics of fantasy literature and inspired a series of successful and wildly popular films. TLS, one page, 5.25 x 7, personal letterhead, October 12, 1966. A letter of thanks to a fan. After signing, Tolkien adds in his distinctive calligraphic hand, “If you use one of the modern steel bows, you should be developing a good torso!” Fans of Tolkien’s work will note that “steel bows” were used by the Numenor race in Lord of the Rings. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine, clean condition. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
