Unicorn Vol. 1 no. 1

  • May 1967
  • Karen Rockow, ed.
  • Cover illustration by Karen Rockow
  • Stapled, two sided

Contains the article "People Who Read J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings" by Greg Shaw. Greg, editor of Entmoot, was asked to write a piece for this premiere issue of Unicorn to explain the attraction Tolkien holds for the counterculture of the time. He explains that he switched Entmoot from a fanzine focusing on "deadpan linguistic discussions" to the latest issue that "just approached being psychidelic in spots." This article explains Greg's move from Tolkien fandom to the San Francisco music scene pretty well.
