Well, TS Smial will be fine with me,

- but I am thinking it might be possible (and possibly less hassle) to 'join' the ITF (International Tolkien Fellowship) independently. There are no real rules about what type of organisation can or cannot join, nor really what the rights and duties of affiliated organisations are. Basically, it was set up as a structure for Tolkien Societies across the world to inform each other about what is going on and discuss matters of joint concern.

It still is largely informal, consisting of an e-mail-group, a forum and meetings of officials or representatives at Oxonmoot (or sometimes at other larges gatherings attended by many TSs). Originally of course TSs (and societies like MythSoc or the Inklings Gesellschaft) were seen as the possible members, but a consensus has formed that some organisations that are not strictly societies, but have originated from serious (and basically voluntary) fandom can be accepted. Walking Tree Publishers is as yet the only such of more or less permanent standing.

It may take a bit of discussion whether TCG should be accepted as a ‘regular’ in the ITF, there hasn't yet been any affiliate that is basically an internet community, whithout any other formal structure behind it than ‘owner-administrator’. But once in, there are in fact less requirements and obligations than on a TS Smial.

Joining it would basically mean that Rowns would join the e-group and forum, and if needed he could appoint one or two others as officers of TCG - there are some respected members here who regularly attend Oxonmoot; or it could be a way of getting Beren to join ITF, which IMHO should have happened some time ago.

My copy of the HC Deluxe LR (bought about a year ago) is a 2nd printing, it has the additional corrections (including Fréaláf, hamfæst, swift falcon) and the right Ring inscription, but still the old index.

I can only repeat Wellinghall.

This looks like an automatically generated sales talk, composed from information from the net, without someone checking for basic correctness. The misdescription of facts plainly on display is repeated from in the previous item in this topic's gallery in almost identical manner. But with the priceless (!) addition, that in this case 'Revised Edition' is printed prominently on all three dj's on display! Someone has been thoroughly asleep while putting this up for sale.

H'm. I bought a set like these, but without box and in slightly worse condition last year in Amsterdam, for about 25 Euros. Of course this set will be worth a bit more, but ten times as much?!

Yes indeed - something like that. After I posted I started looking into my Yahoo-groups account. For some reason it had stalled. I've got it working again, but all the mailgroups on which the announcement was made, Lambengolmor, Elfling and Elfscript2, run on Yahoo-groups, so they were all affected. Other cares worritting at my mind, I hadn't noticed that the drip of group mails had dried up.

No fault of the ELF, therefore.

But it may be noted that Julian Bradfield's Tolklang mailgroup doesn't work on Yahoo, but on Edinburgh University servers; it may be barely alive, but it isn't dead yet; although it breathes maybe once a year nowadays.

ITF also runs on its own servers, but that of course isn´t open to the public. It is, however, intended for committees and editors, conference organisers and the like, of Tolkien societies and closely related organisations in good standing, for (among other things) announcing, even in advance, events, publications, etc., so that societies can then pass these on to their members (at the proper time).

ELF forum? Or do you mean the Lambengolmor e-mail list? That's were the announcements always are in the first place, of course. I'm subscribed to that and I haven't seen anything from it in months.

That link to Rateliff's blog is the first sign I got that PE #18 is out. I would have liked to have had the opportunity to pre-order. Is it really asking too much to wish things like these were announced to the usual channels for the discerning Tolkien-community, e.g. ITF, Beyond Bree, TolkienLibrary, this site?

Before the real experts come in, just a few thoughts on the Lewis book ...

1) If the book was in Tolkien's possession, he might well have signed it just there - top of title page. But if so, why would Lewis have signed it? Surely because he gave it to Tollers. But then, he would probably have added a few words to his signature, and he would hardly have used the same pen and ink.

2) Also, how would the book then have got into a school library? Does anyone know what Priscilla's job in Bristol was, and whether she still worked there in 1958 or later?

3) That (sickly blue colour of) ink looks awfully familiar ...
