It has come way way down in price...

Those are some very unhelpful pictures for that fireplace, as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Yep, I'd still not pay a cent for that. Tolkien was an author and philologist, not a fireplace designer.

I love the hole in this "STUNNING True 1st/1st" edition of Farmer Giles.

Can someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't first impressions of these with jacket normally worth sub-£20? Pretty sure I paid £15 or so for mine (in better condition than the linked copy). I don't feel like they are an in-demand book.

Agreed on your feelings for price, and for demand, as far as I have seen the last few years.

Same book, first seller honestly shows the spine is torn, second one doesn't (and adds an extra thousand pounds to the price...) I despair at the state of Tolkien bookselling. Also looks like it might have gained a topstain, but that might just be the poor lighting in the photo.

...could it be that the spine is glued now?

Don't think so, just pushed it down for the photo.

Certainly possible. But not disclosing that is thoroughly dishonest. And not disclosing that the spine is not attached is thoroughly dishonest. Either way, the seller is behaving in an unacceptable manner for a professional bookseller (either they glued it back together or are not mentioning it is falling to bits).

IMHO, There is really only one decent very-regular eBay seller of Tolkien, and coincidentally he posts here and has "cat" in his name. There are plenty of good deals and well described books on eBay, but the "professional" Tolkien sellers are usually not the place to find them these days..
