I suppose I could say that I was not getting Book Club editions, so would not include the Guild edition, but I do have a Book Club edition from Grafton so that doesn't work.

I think I will have to look out for a Guild edition

Sorry, temporary madness - just realised that was the Guild Annotated Hobbit and not the Guild Hague Hobbit you were looking for. Mind does strange things at times.

I did not have that one, do now

Excellent.

Hey all,

I just purchased a HarperCollins single volume paperback Lord of the Rings from Waterstones (1st and 2nd images) with a cover I had not had before (black with the red lettering.)

The interesting thing is that this book has the same text block and copyright page (down to it being a 67th printing) as my recently purchased HarperCollins single volume paperback LOTR TV tie-in (3rd and 4th images.)

I was wondering if the black cover was the previous cover of the single volume paperback prior to the new TV tie-in? Just seems interesting they both are 67th printings…but I guess they easily could issue a new cover during a print run.

Thanks,

Lance

Was fortunate to find a 1st print of Parma Eldalamberon #17 for a real bargain the other day. Not saying I want to collect the others, but who knows!

Thanks!

Then I wonder if this will be the cover going forward replacing the TV tie-in or whether perhaps HC will use both? Perhaps the TV tie-in cover was a short term promotional printing for the RoP first season?

(Just pondering out loud…)

I think the yellow cover was probably just for the first season of the TV series, and will probably not be for sale once the first season ends in October.

Btw, I remember reading somewhere here that the POD PE#17 is a second edition right? I bought the first printing when it was first published but I'm interested in buying the POD if it is indeed a second (revised) edition

Urulókë has both, so he could answer definitively. I was looking on the website just now and there is nothing about it being a revised edition. http://www.eldalamberon.com/parma17.html

I chatted with Christopher Gilson about the reprint back when it was announced. Portions of the book had to be redone due to at least one font no longer being available and having to switch. Also, the various known errata (see https://www.elvish.org/errata/Parma-Errata.pdf and others not documented there) were fixed. Finally, page headers were added to make it easier to navigate through the book. One minor new error crept in - the even numbered page footers all say "Parma Eldalamberon 16" while the odd footers are correct. This may have been fixed in more recent POD copies, mine was one of the first made upon release.

The 2nd printing is labeled as such on the title page - "2nd printing 2021" under the issue number near the top. The front cover is a scanned reproduction of the 1st print cover, so the art and text is ever so slightly blurry - not really noticeable unless you look very carefully. The spine text is completely different, making that the easiest way to identify if a particular copy is a 1st print or or a newer POD one. The rear cover is blank on the 1st print, and has a bar-code/ISBN/price on the 2nd print.

Thanks, I suspect Urulókë something similar with the POD PE#19? It states, as in PE#7, Publication Date: June 9, 2021
