History of Middle-earth Print on Demand

Thought it would be useful to have a link with all the HarperCollins Print on Demand History of Middle-earth books plus The Index. This is the only place to get a hardback Index but look elsewhere for these and I would recommend them only if you can't find any original copies for sale.

Thanks! Is there a big difference in quality between the original copies and the print on demand versions?

I only have the print on demand index as all my other HOME editions are firsts. If the Index is anything to judge by then the quality is good. The paper reasonably thick and of good quality - better than that found on Harper Collins standard hardbacks and a little whiter. The binding feels more like buckram than the softer type boards used on trade editions. The binding is however quite square. A very nice quality book.

I have just bought an as new copy of the 2010 POD Book of Lost Tales pt 1 on Ebay. I am delighted with it and will have no hesitation in buying more POD HOME volumes on the back of it. With the 30% discount for signing up for the newsletter I can get all 11 that I don't have for the cost of a first Peoples of Middle-earth.

I have fixed the links, some of them were pointing to the now defunct tolkien.co.uk website.

I would caution comparison—in regard to quality—of POD books printed & bound over 10 year ago, with whatever HC are doing now. They may be using the same POD printer(s), they may not.

Has anyone compared POD copies from ~2010 with HC's current PODs?

I bought the POD index last year to go with my set of HoME 1st prints and I can say that it is better quality than a few of the later volumes of HoME that HC was producing in the 90's. Better binding, paper quality...

Mine was apparently bought in April so also recent.

The only downside is that they have rigid spines and are perfect bound.

I don’t see the point of them for the volumes that are available cheaply, but they make sense for Wotj and PoMe (and of course the index)
