I recently received the deluxe edition of Bovadium from Kennys. It had the original protective box from HC, but Kennys used it to apply the shipping label and sealed it with some hideous parcel tape! Yet it arrived undamaged.

That is horrible. I am so sorry you experience that.
My set arrived from Kenny's just now. Packed in one of their usual cardboard wraps around some bubble-wrap and the HarperCollins box. No damage. It *would* have been damaged if the HarperCollins box wasn't present though, as that box had some corner bumps, but did its job protecting the books inside. These are very obviously budget quality books, but nice designs nonetheless (and glad to continue my string of good luck with Kenny's).
I went with the jacket reversal. I found that boxed set one and two together were just too dark and muddy looking with the illustrated jackets (set 2 being worse than set 1). I like the illustrations individually, but the matte finish and dark patches were just a bit much and I didn't really want to give them shelf space, given the limited space available. They look better reversed and next to HoME, I think.

Is that the Silmarillion from the current boxed set?
That is part of the first ‘History of Middle-earth box sets’, alongside Unfinished Tales and two volumes of Lost Tales.
The current Myths & Legends #2 is the latest box in this series

Indeed, this is the only one of those that I reversed (I had a spare first boxed set that was trashed by Awesomebooks - the Sil survibed). The Howe art is kind of the only point of the sets, IMHO, except for the Silmarillion. All the other HoME boxed sets are at my in-laws in The UK. I may well never bring them to NZ, realistically due to luggage space constraints. There is always something else I’d rather bring and I don’t have shelf space anyway!
