I think it is now as clear as mud, response from the seller via email, why have they included pictures of a rebound copy??
Thanks for the info on the signature.
Yes, I originally bought the book through a reputable book locator who I believe found it at the Tolkien bookshelf based on the signature sheet in the book.
The item text is word for word (pretty much) for how it was listed when I initially purchased it.
Yes, the cloth is in the original binding based on information I received prior to purchasing the book (see item text).
The book has been well maintained and must have originally been bought for collection purposes based on its condition. Of course I am speculating here as I don't know the previous owners but just looking at it, while you can see its an older book it is not weathered or worn looking.
I hope this helps. Note my return policy if you are not happy with it.
thx
Dave

You have to remove the "Y" at the beginning of the link before it will work.

What??? ($350 for a large print Hobbit)
THE HOBBIT ~ JRR TOLKIEN ~ RARE LARGE PRINT EDITION OOP
A Rare Large Print Edition, only three more on eBay (one seller has more than 10 available of this rare book, how lucky!!!), amazingly all much cheaper
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw ... rksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313
I also like to quote this seller's description and how it is ignored in this sale, and sadly most of his auctions.

A FEW WORDS ON TOLKIEN COLLECTIBILITY...I have been collecting Tolkien books for over 30 years and it really galls me to find people selling items for ridiculous prices claiming they are "rare" or "highly collectible"; and what's worse is, naive people are paying it~! The fact is, there are relatively few "RARE" Tolkien items on eBay and most of the stuff claimed as such, just isn't. Granted, some may be hard to find, but not rare.
What about this one, from the same seller?
excerpt:
"This is one of the nicest limited editions ever published. Originally printed in 1978 by Guild Publishing in London, this is leather bound with spectacular gold embellishments to the cover and spine. It contains all of the same two color illustrations by Tolkien himself found in all other editions as well as all of the original maps.
It is a spectacular edition worthy of any fine library or discriminating Tolkien collection. And if you are looking for a nice gift for a Tolkien collector, there is a good chance they don't have this as it is not very common! "

I'd say most of us here have one - except that mine doesn't have a real leather binding 'with spectacular gold embellishments to the cover and spine. '
Neither do I consider it to be ' a spectacular edition worthy of any fine library or discriminating Tolkien collection.'
This dealer doesn't know his bum from his elbow...
