I'm not sure if this counts as a lucky find but my wife was clearing out some old boxes and found these -

I remember buying them when a teenager at the same time I bought my first Silmarillion (1977, so I was 16). I even have the original envelopes that came with the cards. I thought they were long gone, lost when we moved house, so I was thrilled when she dug them from the bottom of a box and showed them to me. Now if she can only find my 1978 Silmarillion Calendar that I would have thought was lost at the same time!

P.S. First time posting photos, please let me know if I've done anything wrong.

EDIT:
Images added.

Anyone nab this one on eBay. I think I was a few minutes too late.

I'm pretty sure it was listed yesterday at some point. To be honest I don't think the price is that incredible. I mean, if that boxset (which does admittedly look in lovely condition; as do all the books) is a set of later impressions, then it's not that unusual to see it go for £10-20. Ditto The Silmarillion --if it's a reprint then I'm not sure you'd be paying that much for it.

I have a spare one of these (the LotRs boxset that is), if anyone wants it...

I would certainly be interested in that set as I don't own it, especially for around the price you are offering it or a trade (if I own something you would want).

I could totally be looking in the wrong places, but I'm not sure a lot of these sets are up for sale (regardless of impression) at the moment. I've always really liked the dust jackets.

Amazon.co.uk has none: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Lord-Ring ... TF8&qid=1362796963&sr=8-1

Amazon.com has one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listin ... TF8&condition=collectible

Abebooks has one: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Searc ... l&sortby=17&sts=t&x=0&y=0

I guess it is possible I'm looking at the wrong edition or searching by ISBN is too limited.

I'm looking to get my hands on this set too. There's a matching Hobbit, Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales too, right? Any others?

For me this is one of the lucky finds of the year so far- only one problem? I didnt see it till it had sold! The description isnt great and the photo doesnt grap your eye and you could easily miss it.

Its only when you take a good look!

So for £200 buy now someone got all 12 doulton lotr figures £800-£1000 a full set of HOME by looks of it (if firsts which some will be) £700 -£1000 and thats not mentioning the plates, other books and figures. So subject to book impressions I reckon a potential lot worth at least £1,500 if not £2,500!
WOW - now that is worth going to collect !

Just an interesting rather than a particularly lucky find. I bought a copy of Who's Who in Literature 1932 and it has an entry for JRR Tolkien (an in acurate one as it mis-spells Ronald and lists Selections from Chaucer 1925 as one of his published works - when in fact it never saw the light of day).
