Can't find my original post on this, but this appears to be the variant edition that I own, slipcase is a different size, and the slipcase has some differences from the more common edition, though all editions are quite rare in a slipcase.

Can you say, offhand, what the basic differences are please?

Ahh, I did wonder it was your variant, Trotter. The colour looked a little different, etc.

Interesting that it is in Australia, given the alternative variants of the illustrated edition have also primarily come from Au.

Yeah, I remembered it was darker and a little wider.

I thought about buying that set off eBay, but figured "what do I need with another very slightly different version of a set that I already have in much better condition that only cost me $25".

Hopefully someone lacking a set at all picked it up (which was why I posted it, despite the box being a bit rough). The money I didn't spend on it will no doubt go towards a second edition Hobbit at some point :)

Thanks for sharing the old thread... looks like I have the larger variant. Didn't realize I'd have to find another one of those sets!

What country did you acquire your larger variant in?

Silly price, but interesting to note another Encore version showing up in Australia. That's the third I have noted from there.
