Deagol,

Great to see updates on the site again. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

Just a quick question on this one:

http://www.tolkienbooks.net/php/details.php?reference=27100

Is this a stock photo?

The edition I have (matching this ISBN) has a film cover and is a 1st Printing (Harpercollins Childrens Books). It has the sticker on it also. I ordered it a day or two after it was released. The stock photo on Amazon I think is incorrect. I have not seen a John Howe cover.

Here is what mine looks like:

eBay Item #221360072114

Have I got this wrong or am I confused?

Also there is another paperback not on your site (an international film tie in edition):

ISBN: 0007525508

https://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Hobbit-J- ... collsguid-21&linkCode=osi

Cover is identical to ISBN: 0007525494, but it is a smaller format book.

Thanks again for a fantastic site!

Perhaps this could help. Here is some book that is not listed there:

The Silmarillion: HarperCollins, 2013 Edition, 2013. ISBN:9780007523221

The Children of Húrin. HarperCollins, Complete & Unabridged 2007(10 December), ISBN:9780007275397

The Children of Húrin. HarperCollins, Paperback, 2009 (2 April), ISBN:9780007309368

Updates to other sections coming soon, starting with LotR.

No it is not a stock photo! There are two HarperCollins Children's Books editions - 2012 and 2013. 2012 has the film cover and 2013 has the John Howe Smaug. I managed to miss the 2012 version when it came out and didn't realized until I read Tolkien Collector No.33. [Incidentally, TC33 has a typo on the year - it should read 2012 not 2011.]

I now have copies of the 2012 and 2013 editions in hand.

I have been debating with myself whether to include this edition as (in theory) I only include British editions at TolkienBooks. I excluded it for that reason, but am leaning the other way now so have ordered a copy.

HarperCollins have put out a few editions for sale overseas over the years and I decided not to include them as they were not offered for sale in the UK - remember the third edition of The Road Goes Ever On for instance?

There have been some Aus/NZ only editions too. One has to draw the line somewhere!

The Children of Húrin. HarperCollins, Complete & Unabridged 2007(10 December), ISBN:9780007275397

Does anybody have a copy of this? What is it?

Looking on Amazon, ABE, etc brings up a photo of the super deluxe edition. Just a database glitch maybe? The ISBN doesn't tie in with other books from 2007.

There's also another ISBN (ending 0007275390) that doesn't seem to link to anything properly; e.g. eBay Item #141173825297

I guess (& have guessed) it's a glitch. Sellers posting with these ISBNs always seem to show pictures of the super deluxe; but with low prices, like with the example above (--as well as strange images of the super deluxe without the slipcase.)

yeah, I post that children of húrin book in a previous post here...
But here is again:

The Children of Húrin. HarperCollins, Complete & Unabridged 2007(10 December), ISBN:9780007275397

If the superdeluxe was really as cheap as it always (erroneously) shows up as (on eBay, etc), they might have shifted the whole 500 copies in the last six and a half years!

Amazing to still see it is available. They must only sell a handful per year.

That said, it is still a book I really like - I just wish I didn't have three copies :)

I received my copy of the "HarperCollins International Film tie-in edition" of The Hobbit (ISBN-13: 978-0007525508) and can't see what is "International" about it. It looks like a typical 'A' format paperback to me. Have added it at TolkienBooks.net.

Does anyone have the 2012 reprint of the 7 volume paperback edition of The Lord of the Rings? I would be interested to know which printing you have and roughly when you purchased it.

Also has anyone seen/have a copy of The Hobbit with this cover but in the larger 'B' trade format?

Thanks Deagol. I am (still) rather confused by this one. I will order the one with the John Howe cover.

Did you notice that the 2012 and 2013 Children's Editions both have the same ISBN (and both apparently stated first impressions with different covers)

http://www.tolkienbooks.net/php/details.php?reference=27100

http://www.tolkienbooks.net/php/details.php?reference=26800

I think this is what may have led to my original confusion in presuming that the John Howe cover was a stock photo!

Too many editions too fast to keep track of.......

Many Thanks again.
