Ok…I see the hardcover set and jackets. But how does the large format soft wrapper set fit in to the printing history? Issued after the hardbacks, the same time, or…? I am curious as I have the softcover set.

My set similar to this:

I dont have the softcover set but I think the first swedish softcover set came in 1967 or 1968

Maybe. My copyright pages state 1959 to 1961. And if you look at that listing, last image, there is an inscription dated in 1962.

northman, If you have the time at some point, could you look closely at your set and the binding? I am really interested if these hardbacks are possibly the softcovers rebound. Thanks!

Maybe a swedish member knows more?

Yep they do If you look at this on the back cover (of the large format softcover), it shows they were issued at the same time i.e. in 1959-61 - 26 Kr. (SEK) being the price for the softcover and 32 Kr. for the hardback - Inb. is short for "inbunden" which means hardback.

Is the most complete list of swedish publications i have seen. It only mentions a hardback publication in 1959-1961 (1962 mentioned in the copyright page means a 2nd printing of this). As for softcovers it says the AWE/GEBER 1967 is the first. Meaning the set you have (with covers similar to the hardback dustjackets Dogfark is ignorant of) is actually missing from this list. I will take a close up of the binding of mine today and you can try to compare the textblocks.

Strictly speaking, the list doesn't say that the 1967 edition is the first softcover - it says that the 1967 edition is the first pocket. "Pocket" is admittedly a softcover/paperback - but so is "häftad" which is generally larger than "pocket".

The 1959-61 edition encompassed two variations, one "häftad" and one "inbunden" (hardback). So that list is correct to say that the first pocket was in 1967, but is imprecise in not identifying the two variations in 1959-61.

I think this might be a common mistake then and not just in this list. . Listings at bokbørsen tend to say the 1967 is the first softcover edition.
