At a guess I think this reprinted excerpt will be from the Tree and Leaf version published in the US in 1965.
Horn Book also reprinted an excerpt from The Hobbit in 1938 (IIRC).
TolkienBooks doesn't record American editions/reprints unless the original wasn't published in the UK.

It states at the beginning of the page:
''Since C. S. Lewis, in his article which follows, refers to Mr. Tolkien's essay, '' On Fairy-Stories'', as ''perhaps the most important contribution to the subject that anyone has yet made,''we quote from it here with the permission of Oxford University Press''
So it looks they quote from British 1947. version. :)
