I'm happy enough with the book. I don't wholly agree with Trotter, though. A big part of designing any product is ensuring that the design you have produced is capable of being properly manufactured using staff and equipment of the expierence/care factor and cost you wish to engage in the manufacturing.

LIke I said, I'm happy enough with it (at £40) - it is a nice book despite this. I wouldn't be happy at £75, mind. It is sometimes easy to forget that the 75 quid is not a small sum.

Here’s mine... I realise now the franking stamp is not exactly horizontal.

Confirms my suspicion that there are too many variables. Your stamp is high, rather than the usual low, and it still doesn't line up, because the frank mark on the slipcase is in the wrong place.

I notice glue spatters on the slipcase as well. Mine has some of those. Seems like they would have been better gumming them.

Someone must have a copy where it all actually came together correctly! Is this the new Holy Grail???

Unfortunately pretty much all sellers (even on second hand sites) are still using stock photos. Going to have to wait a while for that to pass and people to sell copies with real photos (after the holidays?) or go into stores and check every copy. Anyone in the UK want to swing by Blackwells and check out their stock? ?

The problem is that the paper insert (under the shrinkwrap) covers it, so you basically will only ever know for a used copy.

Yes Stu. Those glue splatters annoyed me at first. But I’ve moved past that and am now reading the book ?

The stamp on my copy is pushed almost out of the blind space, but the alignment doesn't look too bad...

What really annoys me is the pixellated stamps in the fold out.

I’ve just made my way through the whole book - it is absolutely enchanting and adorable to be sure (poor Polar Bear even complains that he doesn’t get many letters although he works so hard ). And the last letter sort of got me a little emotional.

I will be trying to get an edition with a larger print of all the letters and envelopes so I can read and see the details. Many of the pictures are rather small and their accompanying text even tinier. That is my only gripe about this edition (though I don’t see how they could have got around it).
