The '88 Hobbit is presumably the '88 Guild Hobbit with UH Wrapper? I don't think a red sun wrapper without a stripe was ever actually issued by UH, except on the Guild edition.

Right Stu, it is this book...so not an UH book, just a UH dust jacket.

Yep, that's what I thought. I like that edition. Always struck me as odd that UH didn't use the jackets and then reverted to the usual ones for the 1990.

Received this week:
  • The Abrams 1st edition Hobbit illustrated with Rankin & Bass film imagery, 1977. Has the cool acetate transparent dustjacket with Smaug on the front and Smaug/invisible Bilbo on the back.
  • Amon Hen #287 - the new style is really coming together, the content is strong, quite happy to be a Tolkien Society member and get six of these every year along with other benefits.
  • Russian Hobbit, 1989, illustrated by A. Shurits (red one on left, no dustjacket as issued I believe)
  • Russian Hobbit, 1994, illustrated by Filippov & Bytmanov (blue one on right, with dustjacket)

I love the various Eastern European Hobbits with their quirky illustrations - can't read a word of them, but the pictures are great. Slowly adding to my collection.

(Editing to quickly note - I will be adding the Russian spelling eventually, when I can figure out the gothic fonts accurately - western spellings of all these names tends to vary a lot!)

Really nice !
Are the Abrams Hobbit conditions finally to your satisfaction? (seems near fine from the picture)

Yes, this is beautiful and the concept intriguing. For me, the light behind holds the hint of great figures touching the earth. My only quibble is her risk on the rocks in the trailing gown. Though I minimize Elvish grace.
Dolfen still has 1 or 2 prints left on Etsy and the cost quite reasonable.
Sweeton I cannot find on the net yet.
