Happiest with the centenary red slipcase edition. Thats when I first read Tolkien. My grandparents lent me their Baynes 1vol yellow spine paperback, and all the pages used to come free with each page turn. I remember returning it all taped back together.
I wanted my own copy, and got the centenary paperback (no slipcase), laminated them, put bookplates in, and the spines got so faded.. so getting the slipcase volume, released some powerful happy hormones.

Really great collection Rob. Do you have a focus going forward as to what you want to add?

Finally got something I've been hunting for so long, and at a stellar price too...

1st Edition (1 of 3000 print) Who Goes There? (1948) by John Campbell ... better known as THE THING or THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD.

Greatest dustjacket art of all time.

This thing is in insane condition ...

Unfortunately it is not one of the 200/3000 that were signed by Campbell. But it's okay. I'm very happy with the VG quality of the DJ.

Looks nice. In the future, let's try and keep the recent acquisitions Tolkien or at least Tolkien adjacent. This is the Tolkien Collector's Guide after all.

Roger, I'm just extremely excited

It was an Abebooks listing with zero pictures. I had to email to get them. Those are the best listings honestly. Oh yeah I didn't know this was a tolkien only thread because earlier posts people just posted whatever lol.

Slightly less expensive Pleasure in Reading books.

Bought these two as the covers are illustrated by Pauline Baynes
