U.S. PB Silmarillion update

Looks like the mass market paperback edition of The Silmarillion has had an update in the U.S. recently, now matching up with the current LotR covers. If anyone has seen this in a bookstore or owns a copy I'd be grateful to know when it was first seen and which printing it was. Thanks!

Interesting for both covers! That speaks 'Tolkien' to me, in the vein of his own artwork...yet different. A sort of retro, whismical kind of look.

Now for Unfinished Tales to get one too.....though, in truth, we're lucky to get The Silmarillion.

I love the artwork, but I’m not a fan of the unnecessary callout to THE LORD OF THE RINGS right there on the cover. It’s as if the publishers think these books can’t stand on their own.

Feels very 21st century digital marketing... An Unexpected Journey from the creators of The Lord of the Rings., Fantastic Beasts... from the makers of Harry Potter, blah blah.

I have to agree, it makes an otherwise rather pleasant cover look cheap. In 2020 if people interested in books don't know that the bloke who wrote The Lord of the Rings also wrote The Hobbit then they are probably never going to know.

I love to see an edition of the Lord of the Rings that is described As the wonderful sequel to The Hobbit.

Are you guys sure these are new? Reverse google image search leads to B&N and Penguin sites and they state these were published in 1985 (Hobbit) & 1986 (Silmarillion)? And there are same LoTR editions which were also released around the same time.

The Fellowship
The Two Towers
The Return of the King
The Hobbit (B&N) (Can't find it on Penguin!)
The Silmarillion

Amazon link for the LoTR

I would never use Reverse Google Image search for information on real books. Don't know much about US editions, can anyone who does help with this question?

I would put much stock in something that refers to The Lord of the Rings as a "trilogy"
