I've got a potential deal in the works...haggle, haggle, haggle.

I'm curious, how much would y'all be willing to pay for this 1988 Unwin Hyman set?

The seller is asking about $90(USD)

I'd say that's a reasonable for 3 hardbacks, in a box, that are out of print. Of course, it depends on the condition listed (I PERSONALLY never buy anything below 'very good' grade)

The books are Very Good, the box is a little beat up. With shipping it's going to be about $125...oh well, I think I'll take the plunge.

Generally, I can accept the slipcase being less than VG, provided it's done its job by protecting the book within. The danger there is spine wear and sunning...

The books themselves are worth nothing, so the value is in the slipcase. I think I paid about £45 for a set that was in fairly excellent condition last year. I've seen a couple sell in the £30 - 40 region where more tatty. I paid £30 for a set three or four years ago, but the slipcase got quite damaged in the post due to totally inadequate packing (so I was refunded in that case).

$90 is on the high side (initially read it as $125 which would be way too much), but it isn't "madness expensive".

It's shipping that's killing me here for UK to America.

£65 for the set
£30 for shipping

which converts to about $125 on my end.

Yeah, I’ve pretty much stopped collecting items from the UK since shipping costs skyrocketed in March, except for a handful of essentials.

Actually with the USPS so strangled recently, I’m not buying or selling anything really. Hope it gets better next year. I sent my glasses frames in for repair via first class mail to my optometrist about a mile away, and it took two weeks to get delivered.
