I have a spare copy of this now that is in near fine shape, was there someone here who was looking for a copy?

My spare has staple holes near the top of the front cover (between "M" and "A" in "MAT") and whomever stapled something to it pressed hard enough that a minor indent goes all the way through the issue.

The cover art is "The World of J.R.R. Tolkien" by Barry Geller. The issue contains multiple Tolkien related articles
  • p. 32 "Learning to Love the Hobbits" by Aubrey Menen
  • p. 34 "Frodo's Journey" map by Burt Groedel
  • p. 39 "Tolkien on Tolkien" interview
  • p. 40 "Hobbitmania"
  • p. 42 "Pleasure of the Hobbit Table" by Nancy Smith

Someone nabbed it via PM. Thanks for the interest!

Ah, ok. Can you tell me if the "Tolkien on Tolkien" article contains more than what is reprinted in Letters no. 165 (i.e., the c.1955 statement for HM (pp.218–20) + the three paragraphs from the 1964 letter to Nancy Smith (p.221))?

Scratch that, I was able to verify independently that it does not. Thanks again.

It was derived from those two original sources (as were the edited versions that appear in Letters). I don't think there is anything significant in Tolkien on Tolkien but there are differences (mostly typos during transcription, though Letters also has an error or two noted by H&S as well). See S&H's Companion and Guide, Reader's Guide Part II (2017), pp. 1317-1319 ("Tolkien on Tolkien").

Based on H&S's note, they are pretty much the same though intermixed.

The map in Diplomat is worth the price of admission itself, in my opinion. Hilarious 60s style fever dream. See this thread for a few pictures from it.

Yes I saw the bits of the map you posted there. Very interesting!
