I much prefer the dark orange of the 1998 edition (which I love). This one looks quite nice, but realistically it IS probably a bit too bright and toning it down a fraction would probably have been a better result.

Looking forward to getting my copy. It has, apparently, shipped.

Just leave it in the sun a few years. I am sure that orange would happily turn a duller color for you

My deluxe arrived today, but unfortunately included a second copy of the double-sided poster instead of the map.

I've emailed HarperCollins - anyone had any luck with this sort of thing? When I complained about the poor packaging of one of the POD History of Middle Earth volumes, they sent me a replacement without hesitation, so I'm hoping to get the same level of customer service this time.

EDIT: HC replied:

Our Tolkien Team have advised that we have become aware of a small number of copies with this issue and are sourcing some extra maps, once we receive these one will be posted out to you.

I also had 2 posters but no map. I contacted HarperCollins the same day it arrived. They sent me the map within 3 days with a stamp addressed envelope to return the other poster. A good service and no quibbles.

I wonder if this is why it is unavailable at so many retailers - perhaps they are having to open and rectify a lot of copies at the warehouse.

I don't recall seeing this mentioned or photographed (please correct me if I missed this), but did everyone's deluxe come in a outer cardboard box with a title+ISBN sticker i.e. much the same as the UT deluxe?

And I am compelled to save another Tolkien box.

Didn’t they all? I read somewhere that HC said all future deluxe editions would come in its own box from now on?
