Looking at the trade vs the Deluxe, I think the trade has been printed entirely with the slightly yellow background and the deluxe has had some sheets printed so, but the remainder either printed correcty (or wrongly, depending on what they were actually going for).

I'm guessing that the original intent was probably that none of them should have the yellow tint, and this is a small part of why the paper perhaps looks worse than it should (notwithstanding it IS poor paper).

One other thing I've noticed that is similar to both trades (HMH & HC) and the deluxe...in all three the reproductions of Tolkien's dust wrappers are very dark almost impossible to discern the details unless one knows what they are looking for.

As has been stated before, I believe this is because the wrong paper was used for the illustration pages, so this not confined to one edition or publisher.

On a separate note, for those of us who will stay out of this edition after seeing what is going on, how nice are the maps? I wanted to hang one of mine on my wall...

Do you think we'll start seeing them sold second-hand? Which would be (in your opinion) a fair price for the maps?

For any who has not ordered the UK Trade Edition yet (probably not too many):

Kennys.ie have it for 33.74 Euro (£28.65) with either free shipping or a minimal 1 Euro or 1.50 Euro charge to most Countries (1 Euro to NZ and Australia but for some reason 9.50 Euro to USA - think its covid related and temporary).

I ordered to NZ previously from Kenny's. Cock up where they sent the wrong book, but they put it right once the correct one was back in stock. I'd be prepared to give them a go again if/when they have something I'm after. Their postage is absurdly cheap.

Trade hardback arrived today. It's stunning.

I like the deluxe. But I love the Trade.

The AP (Associated Press) USA national bestseller list for last week has the new Lord of the Rings illustrated edition on it at number 7. Not bad for a book old enough to retire! (65 years now...)
