Beautiful, Unicorn also had a Lord of the Rings 3 volume edition by Garland, but those weren't black and are smaller than the black ones. They also had it in a boxset. I only have Return of the king (1986). In the unicorn edition. The fellowship I have is a later one (1987) without the unicorn logo. His interpretation of Barad-dûr is also very different from the single volume edition. Anybody have more information on what the relation was between Unicorn and Unwin? Was it a series or a sister firm?

The Unicorn Fantasy Fiction series was an attempt by George Allen & Unwin to bring some focus to their Unwin Paperbacks imprint by publishing a line of new and reprinted fantasy novels as B-format trade paperbacks. The series used a distinctive frame design on the cover, with the Unicorn device at the head and cover illustrations by well-regarded artists including Roger and Linda Garland, Les Edwards, Terry Oakes and Steve Weston. In its later years Unicorn drifted away from the striking design that had set it apart in 1982 and also began to issue some of its titles as A-format mass-market paperbacks before it was dropped in 1987.

garm mentioned the book Garlands of Fantasy in the TCG Zoom meetup and I bought a copy, highly recommended if you are interested in the artwork of Linda and Roger and it does include a lot of Middle-earth related pictures.
