Price increase: Maker of Middle Earth Collecters Edition

Am I remembering wrong, or hasn't the "Tolkien: Maker of Middle Earth" deluxe edition signed by Priscilla Tolkien been 350£ from the Bodleian Bookshop? It's currently listed with a price of 495£. Seems like they quickly took inspiration from the recent Folio Society LOTR deluxe pricing.

It was £295 when I bought it in December of last year.

A £200 increase with no previous mention that the price would rise feels fairly 'mobbish' to be frank.

Not to be morbid, but perhaps the perceived value has increased due to Ms. Tolkien’s passing? They are somewhat cynically trying to capture that increase.

No warning leads me to think the remainder are limited. Perhaps they would have lost too much of the extra revenue with a buy it now option given how fast the FS sold.
Still as I understand limited editions, a S King offering would have sold out in hours but I see the FS took over a day. Seems RoP is driving interest & sales.

And so it begins ... I fear all books Tolkien-related will have their prices increased, especially the expensive ones.

I paid £295 + £25 shipping from Bodleian on 2nd March.

This is what the massive money printing does. Tolkien is the tip of the iceberg.

Also, this is how bubbles form.

It was still 295 a few days ago. I think this is in response to the Folio release.

Edit: I have the book and it's nice, but I wouldn't personally pay £500 for it. £295 was a push for what is essentially the trade edition with a cloth binding in a nice (cardboard) box.

As someone who has been on the fence about buying this for some months: Lame.

i guess it gets you off the fence… Seriously, though, a 68% price increase on a stocked product is astonishing.
