The November 29, 1954 issue of Newsweek had a review of Fellowship and included a rather (unintentionally) funny cartoon of the battle in Balin's Tomb.

Dale's earlier post on this thread said it was the Times Literary Supplement on 14 September 1973.

How quirky! The origin of those feathers and beaks is an intriguing mystery.

New York Herald Tribune Book Review 12 Nov. 1950 had pieces on new books by C.S. Lewis and JRRT.

That Herald Tribune review of ROTK really is glowing. I rather like how the reviewer uses the exact same phrase "fairy tale for adults" as Jackman does in his scathing review (of FOTR) in Theology. At least they agree on something!

Here’s a review I found in my Smith of Wootton Major, that the original owner kept.
This would have been from a U.K. newspaper according to adverts on the reverse side. Which one I don’t know.
