Tolkien sends birthday wishes for his son Michael. He says that he has heard from John that he is short of cash and apologizes for his lack of help but sends a postal order for him. He hopes that Michael can find a place in a play, and says he will enjoy it.

Tolkien is later that day going to London for a board-meeting. He closes asking for news, and wishes his son well.
