Having just spent a lot of money on what I think is a rare item, eBay often comes up trumps with what can only be described as What????

This is a great thread idea! We should save this 'bin' for all the nonsense that eBay throws up. Here are a couple of other seriously confusing auctions...
The Adventures of Tom Bombadil 1962 2nd imp. 'Good' The Silmarillion 'Probably the best copy we have seen' Saga of King Heidrek the Wise LotRs One Volume Hb 'Possible this is the 9th Impression 1971' In fact, I'm going to have to have a look at some of these again. Perhaps they are signed copies or something... BH

The Silmarillion 'Probably the best copy we have seen' And with all the photo's, they still don't show the most important part of the copyright page ... Billing or Clowes?

They clearly haven't seen many copies if that's the best one! Sheesh! I've got a Billings copy that looks absolutely brand new (it did spent 25+ years in a box of GA&U books that apparently got forgotten about - thus avoiding anything nasty like sunlight or moisture) and cost me about 20 quid. A faded copy like that can't be worth more than a tenner (if that).

- the top edge is blue - so I'd guess it's Billings. (The Clowes copies are unstained) Btw - Trotter - can I ask, what was the rare item you just bought? ![]()
