Only thing that jumps off the page to me is "some wear to the top and bottom of its spine" is putting it quite mildly - actually completely inaccurate.

"Chipped with missing pieces at top and base of spine and detached piece infringing on publisher name at base of spine " may be a little more accurate.

Is that it? Or is there something else?

It is all in the pictures.

(I agree on the dust-wrapper spine, very poorly described by the seller, but not what I was looking for)

- that's from 1st edition Houghton Mifflin edition, I think.

Correct, it should not be.

I often wondered why it was not in the later copies, did Tolkien not like it or think it was out of place in the book? (hopefully this may be explained in a book coming out soon )
