This isn't the only seller who has done this, but it is frustrating!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310215451705 Title of auction is "Two Towers 50th J.R.R. TOLKIEN & AUTOGRAPHED 2 BOOK LOT" In the description, you see that they are selling a very common paperback from Tolkien (and they cannot even seem to find a picture of the edition that they have), and then they attach that to signed self-published books written themselves. At least they have the courtesy to include the first five chapters in the auction, so I know just how much I want to avoid their book(s) without having to spend any money.

If you go to the author, Kristy Lynn Higgins', Amazon page and look at the reviews, you may possibly find another deceptive little practice going on: Some of the positive reviews are duplicates from the same small number of accounts (on different days, albeit often with the same text), and if you then examine those users (e.g. BookWarrior "Zaine"), you see that all they have ever reviewed are Ms. Higgins' books (and they seem to have reviewed *all* of them).
Most of the genuine reviews correctly seem to describe the writing as excrement (although the story gets a couple of ticks). However, the sample chapters adequately demonstrate the nastiness of the writing. Realistically, If I want to enjoy writing of that quality, then I will write a novel myself. Stu
