I thought members might like to see some information from the UK Book and Magazine Collector magazine, on Tolkien and their guesses at valuations on books.

I have picked some of Tolkien’s books to give the prices for from the first copy that I have, July 1985, to the latest copy December 2005.

I will list the copies below that I have, if anybody is aware of any other editions that concentrate on Tolkien or the Inklings, then please post them?

Magazines

1 #17 July 1985 J.R.R. Tolkien With Complete Bibliography
2 #57 December 1988 J.R.R. Tolkien Current Selling Prices Reviewed
3 #95 February 1992 J.R.R. Tolkien With Complete UK Bibliography
4 #214 January 2002 J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘The Lord of the Rings’
5 #238 January 2004 Tolkien Special
- His Life & Works
- Survey of Current Values
- Full Bibliography/Price Guide
- The Tolkien Society

6 #263 December 2005 The Inklings (no prices given)

Book Values (two prices for UK VG books, without dust jacket in brackets), the numbers refer to the magazines above and the prices are the maximum quoted in the magazine.

Thanks Trotter!

Is this a typo (extra zero on #5)?

If only I had had six hundred quid lying around when I was 14, I'd have been sorted :)

It may be a typo in the magazine, does seem a huge increase.

2000 pounds certainly doesn't seem to reflect the price that it would normally sell at (although conversely 200 pounds would seem to be a bit low).
