You should have posted this under the Wonders of thread, it is there for these overpriced posts

But it does seem to be a proof edition of the FOTR.

You're right Trotter. And I just love how they charge $10 for shipping. After $33,000, they really can't afford to offer free shipping?

I know it is an interesting item, but I always come back to -- do I really want to spend lots of money on a really scruffy (and arguably ugly) book? Sure, it is rare and interesting, but do I need to *own* it? For me, every year that goes by, the more the answer is "no". I'm not sure what the market is for these kinds of uber-expensive books, really, other than dealers/speculators looking for the bigger fool and flipping them amongst themselves. If it was a proof for almost any other author on the planet, no one would really care.
