It's not exactly A Northern Venture, but this was a nice little acquisiton - quite the department to be studying in during the early 1920s!

Very nice! Was this a calendar to be written in and used (i.e. for owners to calendar events in their life and take other notes)? If so, are there any interesting notes or events written inside?

I'd say it's more like what we might call a university handbook nowadays - here's the contents page:

I'll have a little look in the almanac section a bit later to see if there are any interesting events listed.

I’ve not seen one of these before. Lovely to see, and probably quite rare in good condition too.

It would be interesting to see what subjects were on offer in English Language and Literature, and if it lists who taught them.

Here's an example - June 1922 - quite plain in terms of what's there on the almanac.

The tutor isn't named in the various subject lists, but one can make a few educated guesses

The first picture below is from Scheme A in English Language and Literature, under the Degree of Bachelor of Arts with Honours - the second is Scheme B.

Excellent photos, thank you! In many ways this is much cooler to me than a personal calendar book to write in, since one can see what the courses and books were, the course schedules, etc. What a great find.

For my research and for "Tolkien's Library. An annotated cheklist," I purchased Leeds Calendars (1920-1927) and Oxford Calendars (1926-1961). Very useful and interesting.
In this Calendar 1921-1922 (p. 585) I discovered that Tolkien was President of The Literary and Historical Society. Tolkien held that office only during the 1921-1922 academic year

Interesting indeed!

I think I saw that the Leeds calendar for 1921-22 has also been in the exhibition you have curated in Rome.
