A lot of the early publications like this one, as pointed out, this is a very rare publication and I like to collect these.

What do we make of this then?

Lord of the rings book signed by Christopher Tolkien!!

I met him at the London book fair. I dont recall if it was the 2009 or 2010 one though as ive been to a few thanks to my line of work (norfolk county council librarian) I hope this clears up any confusion there might have been and I look forward to hearing from yu again if you have any further enquiries.

I don't like it - the sig. looks wrong, for a start. Then there's the illiterate note from the 'librarian', who has no previous form on Ebay. I'd stay well clear (besides, I've more than enough CT sigs.)

...and CT wasn't at the London Book Fair in 2009 or 2010, as far as we know.

Absolute rubbish.
The seller changes story when asked about the book. Notice description now changed as well - from having the best day of life to keeping it fairly fluffy and non specific - handy!

Annoying. I wish I'd cut & pasted the original description. Either way I'm pretty sure it said he met him at a book fair (it didn't give any detail) & it was the "best day of my life ever :D", or something like this. It now reads:

The book of lost tales - part of the lord of the rings genre. Is signed Christopher Tolkien on the inside

I find this interesting, and hard to believe... Anyone out there think this is genuine?

It looks ok to me.

"This is a scarce first edition of J.R.R. Tolkien's Farmer Giles of Ham complete with dustwrapper.

The book was published in 1949 and is in overall V.G condition. The dustwrapper has a couple of minor closed tears at the top of the spine.

What makes this book very rare is that it is signed and dated by the illustrator Pauline Diana Baynes.

She has written 'Pauline Diana Baynes 49 on the title page underneath her own printed name.

This must be one of her first signatures as she was only 27 years old in 1949 and this was her first of many commissions for Tolkien's books.

Pauline Baynes,to my knowledge did not do book signings. Her signature is very scarce. I have only seen two other books signed by her
