Wow - a good price for the seller . these normally go for £4-500. The bidding suggests there were two people who really pushed the price up. Must have really wanted a copy.
anyone want mine for £1,400 ?

I think it's too much money. Mine has a dustwrapper, and it didn't cost anywhere near that.

A 1946 copy failed to attract any bidders at £395:
THE HOBBIT FIRST EDITION 1946. And there's another 1942 3rd imp. just sitting there for £1275, with the option of Make offer --& therefore the possiblilty of picking it up for under this price: The Hobbit or There and back again - Tolkien - 1st edition 3rd impression 1942 ...so I'm not sure why you'd bid this high. BH

did you see the state of the 395 copy. it started at 600 and has slowly been reduced. this being said I do agree make an offer no matter how silly you think it is as you never know.
I think 400 maybe a little more is a realistic price to pay
