"A special collectible hardcover edition featuring the complete work with a sumptuous cover design, foil stamping, stained edges, and ribbon bookmark. These handsome hardcover editions are attractive and gifty (paper-over-board covers with foil stamping, stained edges, and a ribbon marker) at a relatively low price point. These editions are available for US consumers for the first time with these publications. The UK has had The Hobbit and the three books in the Lord of the Rings series available in these formats for some time but this marks the first time they are available in the US. The Silmarillion is new for the UK this year. "

Janet Brennan Croft's War and the Works of J.R.R. Tolkien is finally getting a (reasonably priced) paperback release on April 18, 2024. She says that it only has a few minor typo corrections in it, so there's no need to buy if you already have the first edition hardcover.

TIE-IN WITH SEASON 2 OF THE RINGS OF POWER: Rumor has it that this character will appear in the second season of The Rings of Power, and fans new and old will be hungry to know more about him. Just as our black jacket editions of The Silmarillion and The Hobbit rose in sales alongside season one, we anticipate increased interest in this character and a book that fans can turn to and learn more.
(The quote is one of the "key selling points" intended for book sellers, I guess it does not mean a tie-in book cover.)

Nothing to do with the fact it’s the 75th anniversary of the book?

it’s the 75th anniversary of Farmer Giles of Ham, not Tom B.

Boy, I think that will confuse some people. (Not having Tom B be pulled into a badger sett and he sings his way out? Violating the lore! /s)

I just wanted to mention:

Most places (HarperCollins website, etc) now have updated the stock images reflecting the new paperback (and ebook) covers for The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales.
