Hi everyone. I think this book (or more accurately a later edition of it) is going to be my next purchase. However, it seems a later edition can be picked up for around £60 at best, whereas a 1st is more like £400. My question is are there any major differences between different editions? My friend has a stunning 1982 edition and it's so nice but I would like to make sure it is pretty much the same as the first edition before I hunt one down. I am just looking for a quality book rather than something which is financially valuable. Thanks

It does not look like a lot of difference between these copies, according to tolkienbooks.net, apart from the later copies are in boxes and not slipcases.
