You could have sold a few bits & bobs you had lying around (the odd 1940's Hobbit, a CT signed book etc), if you'd really wanted it!

Nah - if I sold one of my early hobbits, the other seven would look lop-sided on the shelf.

And anyway; even a book signed by Christopher himself wouldn't raise that sort of cash. Would it? But this is all moot, anyway. I don't buy and sell anymore. Just buy (now and again).
