what do people think of this auction on ebay for FOTR (1st edition 5th imp), TTT (1st edition, 4th imp) and ROTK (1st edition, 1st imp)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/13064260675 ... _trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I know they are not in perfect order but what do you think they (especially the ROTK) are worth/worth purchasing?

Good question and i guess my answer is two fold
1 It depends on the price. At the moment they are a good price but it wouldnt suprise me them getting over £500 and maybe £700 with wind behind them. You never know with ebay 2 More importantly it depends on how fussy you are. There is a fair bit of damage but maybe linked with point above it may bring price down. If it was me would wait and get a better copy of each at a more leisurely pace.

George,Allen & Unwin 1977 - True 1st Printing - Export Edition,no price on DJ as issued, printed by William Clowes with all relevant 1st issue points, white topped as opposed to the blue which was an after thought which is borne out by the fact that the 1st domestic editions had the blue top also, this is more rare That blue dye: just an "afterthought"! The Silmarillion - JRR Tolkien - 1st/1st - HB/DJ BH

I think you are right and since i last looked at the auction it was 210, now its 365 so its too expensive for me (I'm a student).
My dream/goal is to have first editions of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, i also feel like they should be in near fine/fine condition or as good as possible basically. Though i realise this will mean spending alot of money!

A real eBay bargain, £150 for a 1962 Lord of the Rings which "looks like a new book".
Ok, but it is only one volume of the book (The Return of the King) and it has no Dust-jacket but does have Unwin Hyman on the spine, which makes it more likely to be from 1987 than 1962. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lord-rings- ... ks_UK&hash=item3f13dfb172
