TCG Letter #122

From
Michael H.R. Tolkien
To
The Evening Despatch
Date
14 October 1944
Type
Unknown
Transcript
Complete
In this letter to the Evening Despatch of Birmingham, Michael specifies that he does not belong to any particular political party and that his is an intervention that is not driven by "partisan animosity". Even if Michael notes that his ideals "cannot be realized with any system", whatever his party declination, in that he grants "God and true Christianity" only a limited place, he still feels the need to intervene in the discussion. And he does it because he was "surprised" at the reading of the 9 October edition of the Evening Despatch, where, with "extraordinary presumption, the Communists of Birmingham" claim "an air of justice", narrating the " legend "of the their" unparalleled understanding of the future.
