Tolkien notes that he has a short story to be published shortly, Farmer Giles of Ham and says that he has completed The Lord of the Rings.

He asks if Miss How would do him a favour and arrange flowers for Mother Mary Michael who will be celebrating her diamond jubilee as a nun who is in a nursing home in Whitby.
