TCG Letter #133

J.R.R. Tolkien
Miss Turnbull
11 March 1949
Autograph Letter Signed
Tolkien reports that he has completed The Lord of the Rings, he doubts it will ever be published but he will send Miss Turnbull a copy, along with Farmer Giles of Ham. Thanking Turnbull for her praise of his work, Tolkien makes mention of Mother May Michael, a nun he became friends with in 1917, wondering if Miss Turnbull could do him a favour, assumed to be organising some flowers for her.

One page of the letter was reproduced in Sotheby's English Literature and History 18 July 1991. A brief excerpt was published in 1992 in Catalogue 16 of R.A. Gekoski, London. Two and a half of the 3-1/2 pages of the letter, and longer excerpts, were published in 1995 in Catalogue Three of Gerard A.J. Stodolski, Manchester, New Hampshire.
