Tolkien writes to his daughter Priscilla in April, 1937Humphrey Carpenter dates this letter from its postmark as "April 1937". Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull give a much closer date as "15-?17 April 1937". We have dated this letter to c. 16 April 1937 as Tolkien says that he will catch the train home the next day.[1] while he is away on a walking tour of Somerset. He hopes to see her tomorrow. He remarks that he has just arrived and will stay at Minehead for the night and will catch the train home from there.
Tolkien, while with C. S. Lewis and Owen Barfield visited the Yarn Market at Dunster, Somerset, and makes a remark that he has marked where they are therefore this must be a postcard.
