Tolkien writing to Rayner says that Volume Two reads “rather well” and notes that the first book contains very few errors.

He hopes to arrive at the Allen & Unwin offices around noon3 December, 1953. See Chronology, p. 440. Tolkien delivers the typescript of The return of the King and he and Rayner discuss other matters inc. maps, informing Hobbit fans, artwork, etc.[1] and accepts Rayner's invitation to lunch.While in London, Tolkien also meets P.H. Newby of the BBC and records his introductory talk for his translation of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.[2]
