A.W. Pollard replies to Tolkien's letter, which Mabel Day had forwarded to him. Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien to Mabel Day (Early English Text Society) • 5 January 1936 (#1807)[1] Hhe explains to Tolkien that while he sees advantages to reproducing the text in print line by line, he personally prefers the uniformity of styling the five or six texts on the Ancrene Riwle in similar fashion. He notes that the Cambridge manuscript is only one of the series to be produced. The matter of editorial inclusions is still to be decided.
